The Lesson Week

You hit it great at the end of a lesson, and by Saturday your old swing is back. That's not because you're bad at golf. It's how your brain learns a movement. This one page card is the 2 hour week I'd run after every lesson, so the change is still there when you play.

Print it before your next lesson.

What's on the card

About 2 hours, spread over the week

Lesson day

Before you leave

Ask your coach 2 questions: what's the one change, and how do I check it when you're not here? That night, no second change and no new swing tip.

Session 1 · Build

First 3 days · 30 min

Slow rehearsal swings, then one club at one target. Before you look up, call what you felt out loud.

Session 2 · Test

A couple of days later

Hit your first 5 balls cold and count how many show the change. Then change club or target every few balls, then every ball.

Session 3 · Pressure

End of the week

Play the course on the range: full routine, a new club, a new target and a score on every ball. Film yourself.

At home

A few nights · 5 min

Slow swings in a mirror, working on the one change.

On the course

Saturday

One swing thought. Expect the old swing on the nervous shots. That's normal.

The box most golfers skip

Don't judge it after 1 round. Keep spreading it out for 3 to 6 weeks and watch one stat that should change, like where your misses go. The card has a 6 week tracker for it.

Why it works

Spread it out

Surgeons in training got the same practice time. The group that practiced once a week for 4 weeks beat the group that crammed it into 1 day on every expert measure.

Same putts, spread out

Beginners who putted 60 a day for 4 days beat the ones who hit all 240 in 1 day, and it still held up a month later.

Worse first is normal

Golfers with instruction were worse on the first test and better 2 weeks later. So don't judge a change after 1 round.

Want to know if it's sticking?

Every drill has a score built in

All 119 drills in the Play Ready Golf app have a score built in, so you can see if a change is sticking instead of guessing from 1 round. It builds your practice week around your biggest leak and the time you actually have.
